Dear Hon. David Anderson,
Mr. Minister I wish to request your assistance in addressing a serious lack of proper process on BC Hydro's part regarding the proposed GSX Crossing.
The latest example is their series of Public Meetings discussing the marine effects of the proposed pipeline. They have excluded Cobble Hill from the public meetings!.
Mr.Minister, as the elected Regional Director for the Electoral Area of Cobble Hill, I can assure you that local residents and the Cowichan Valley Regional District are most interested and concerned regarding all aspects of this proposal.
It is noteworthy that the chosen route for this proposal targets the pipeline landing near the Chevron "Gas Tank Farm" adjacent to the densely populated retirement community of Arbutus Ridge.
The safety concerns that stem from location of the pipeline is not something that Cobble Hill residents are ambivalent about.
I object to the Cobble Hill residents being excluded from this process when we are most certainly impacted.
Would you please assist us in extending the deadline from August 28th to a date at least 30 days following proper public meetings held in the Cobble Hill community to afford us the opportunity to be made aware of the same information offered other communities, and to consider whether this information should lead to inclusion of these matters in the Scoping process.
I will bring this matter to the Regional Boards attention at our next Regional Board meeting September 13/2000.
Regards
Richard Hughes
