My feeling is that BC Hydro's alternative energy policies are lame and toothless. Their policies seem dedicated to perpetuating old, inefficient, heavy-industrial power generation technologies and are ignoring modern, low-impact technologies. I think we need to demand changes to their policies and to demand that they work to develop emergent technologies and systems for future needs, not continue to pollute the environment with late '50s technology.

I still await the report from the NEB regarding this. So far it would appear the information for everyone is incomplete.
John Middleton CVRD Area C - Cobble Hill Opposed Opposed
I am also NOT in favour of privatizing BC Hydro

I believe it is the role of each citizen and each level of government to do their part to reduce green house gas emissions and consumption of traditional sources of energy.  We are all part of the problem and hence part of the solution.  However, we must exercise great innovation and creativity to come up with solutions.  As Einstein said:  "Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them."

We need to situate the Cowichan region and Vancouver Island as leaders in the alternative or green energy sector.  Residents have already indicated they value quality of life (including air quality) over unchecked industrial development.  Local government can play an important role in encouraging green businesses to establish themselves in our Valley.

Completely and utterly opposed. I simply cannot understand why we are expected to sit quiet when they are cutting us off from the continental power grid, putting us at the gentle mercy of the American Corporations and denying us the benefit of our birthright, which is access to clean, affordable power

I am not in favour of the gas-fired generation of electricity on Vancouver Island, as I think it is a danger to our environment, our health and again a way for american multi nationals to make money.  I think we have enough energy coming here already if the lines were used properly.  There are many other ways of producing energy and in this day and age with the diminishing fossil fuels, WHY are we not promoting the research and development of alternate sources of power. Wind sea and air? (Isnt there a ministry with a name similar to that ha ha)

If there is actually a demonstrated need to increase electricity production (and as you know this is disputed), then it would provide an opportunity for BC Hydro to play a leadership role in seriously examining alternative energy sources, and in actively promoting energy conservation.
