Coal-fired gen protest: Thurs, Nov 23, Chilliwack

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 20, 2006

Environment Groups and concerned citizens converge on BC Environment Minister Barry Penner’s Chilliwack Constituency office to protest proposed coal fired power plants.

3:30 PM, Thursday, November 23
#105 – 8615 Young Street, Chilliwack (in parking lot)

The “Friends of the Similkameen” and “Save the Okanagan and Similkameen” groups are busing out from Princeton on November 23 to join people from across the Fraser Valley in protesting a proposed coal fired power plant in Princeton and BC government policies that support coal as an energy source in sensitive airsheds. A formal request for this meeting has been sent to Minister Penner to present 1000 letters of opposition from local families, teachers and doctors, as well as petitions from the BC Teachers Federation and a resolution from the Union of BC Municipalites.

Rumor has it that Santa might make an early appearance with interesting gifts for Ministers who have been naughty (lumps of coal?) and treats for Ministers who have been nice.
