VANCOUVER, April 7 /CNW/ - The Kanaka Bar Indian Band and its business partner, Innergex II Power Trust, announced today that they have submitted their bid to BC Hydro for an Electricity Purchase Agreement.

The Kwoiek Creek Hydroelectric Project promises to be British Columbia's largest, Aboriginal-owned and operated power generation facility to date. The Kanaka Bar Indian Band, through its wholly owned company, Kwoiek Creek Resources Inc., is proud to be the proponent of the Project with its partner Innergex II Power Trust through a 50-50 ownership structure.

The Project is located in the Fraser Canyon approximately 14 km south of Lytton and will create up to 50 megawatts of electricity (enough to power 22,000 homes) from the Kwoiek Creek, running through Kanaka's territory and its reserve lands. It will also provide employment, training and business opportunities to Kanaka members and the local community.

Chief James Frank of the Kanaka Bar Indian Band stated: "BC needs energy and we are very proud to share what we have in our lands with other British Columbians through the sale of power. We have been working on this Project for many years. With all the pluses this Project has, we are very optimistic that B.C. Hydro will look favourably on our Project and award us an Electricityd Purchase Agreement."

If this Project proceeds, it will be the largest Aboriginal owned power project in B.C.'s history. "While many other projects may have First Nations involvement, I don't think any of them can match us in our one-half Aboriginal ownership and the true partnership we have with Innergex", said Chief Frank.

B.C. Hydro is expected to make a decision on August 4, 2006 for independent power producers submitting bids today.
